Tax season is here! The Internal Revenue Service announced that the nation’s tax season will start on Friday, February 12, 2021, when the tax agency will begin accepting and processing 2020 tax year returns.

Important Dates to Remember
Federal Income Tax Deadlines in 2021
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) typically begins processing tax returns in late January, but for those filing 2020 taxes the first day to file is February 12, 2021. Other dates have been announced, but they might be subject to change as 2021 starts. It is important to note that the IRS is experiencing significant processing delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
February 12: IRS begins 2021 tax season. Individual tax returns begin being accepted and processing begins.
February 22: Projected date for the IRS.gov Where’s My Refund tool being updated for those claiming EITC and ACTC, also referred to as PATH Act returns.
First week of March: Tax refunds begin reaching those claiming EITC and ACTC (PATH Act returns) for those who file electronically with direct deposit and there are no issues with their tax returns
April 15: Deadline for filing 2020 tax returns.
October 15: Deadline to file for those requesting an extension on their 2020 tax returns.
2020 Individual Income Tax Returns
If you are currently residing in the US, individual income tax returns (IRS Forms 1040 & 1040NR) are due Thursday, April 15th, 2021.
If you are currently NOT residing in the US, individual income tax returns (IRS Forms 1040 & 1040NR) are due Tuesday, June 15th, 2021.
If you file a personal income tax return extension of time to file before the due date, the extended deadline is Friday, October 15th, 2021. An extension of time to file is not an extension to pay and all tax payments remain due by the original due dates.
Estimated tax payments for 2021 individual income tax returns are due on April 15th, June 15th, September 15th and January 15th.
2020 Business Income Tax Returns:
Partnership returns (IRS Form 1065) are due March 15, 2021. The extended deadline is Sept. 15, 2021. Foreign partnership returns are due on the same date as other partnership returns March 15, 2021.
S- corporation returns (IRS Form 1120-S) are due March 15, 2021, for corporations operating on a calendar year. The extended deadline is Sept. 15, 2021.
Foreign corporation returns (IRS Form 1120-F) are due June 15th or April 15th, depending on a foreign corporation’s US presence. Accordingly, the extended deadlines are December 15th or October 15th, respectively.
C-corporation income tax returns (IRS Form 1120) are due April 15, 2021, for C-corporations that operate on a calendar year. The extended deadline is Oct. 15, 2021.
